This Fall…Don’t

The first day of Fall is September 23, 2019.  This month AIB will focus on fall risk and prevention.

Montero-Odasso et al (Journal of the American Geriatrics Society 66, 367–375 (2018)) reviewed the literature at the intersection of cognitive deficits and fall risk in older adults. The researchers submit that the future of fall prevention might allow for more deliberate cognitive therapy, and even pharmacological cognitive interventions. While traditional interventions are not in danger of being replaced by these alternative therapies, the authors recommend fortifying physical therapy regimens with cognitive and dual-task training aimed at improving gait and balance.
