This is the most comprehensive 19.5 hour workshop on the topic of sport-related concussion (SRC). The course will describe the concussion continuum and present a team-based approach to evaluation and treatment. The culture of sport and its impact on concussion will be discussed, including consideration of approaches to prevention, rule changes that have been enacted, and ethical and legal awareness particularly as it relates to return to play decisions. Hands-on components will include assessment techniques inclusive for the six types of concussion trajectories (vestibular, ocular, mood and anxiety, post-traumatic migraine, chronic/fatigue, and cervical). A detailed “return to play” and “return to learn” approach will be reviewed, and important short and long-term mental health related symptoms will be addressed. Current International standards of care and challenges associated with the administration of a concussion program will be highlighted. An online examination will follow to complete the certification process.
