Pain Neuroscience Education for Adults With Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: A Mixed-Methods Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Pain Neuroscience Education is built on the principle that patients are more equipped to cope with conditions that they understand. Watson et al (The Journal of Pain 20, 1140.e1-1140.e22 (2019)) reviewed evidence from more than a dozen PNE studies and trials. Provider-lead education helps patients reconceptualize chronic conditions, like musculoskeletal pain, and can ultimately mediate clinically significant improvements in pain catastrophizing and kinesiophobia.
