Exercise for preventing falls in older people living in the community: an abridged Cochrane systematic review

Sherrington et al (2020) systematically reviewed randomized controlled trials of exercise as a means of preventing falls among older, community-dwelling adults. Their results suggest patients benefit from exercise interventions the most when they are implemented by physical therapists and address several modalities. Balance and functional exercises alone appeared to reduce fall rates among older adults by 24%, but paired with resistance training, effects might be even greater.
