APRIL was Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month
Our Social Media campaign focus for the month of April is on creating awareness for Parkinson’s Disease. Researchers (Acarer, et al., Is Customized Vestibular Rehabilitation effective in patients with Parkinson’s?, NeuroRehabilitation 37 (2015) 255–262) have found that individualized Vestibular Rehabilitation may significantly improve balance function in individuals with Parkinson’s. This was in a group of Parkinson’s patients without a diagnosed peripheral or central vestibular insult. Based on the locus of vestibular central compensation within the brainstem, cerebellum and cortex, this activation makes sense and should be considered as a part of physical therapy for Parkinson’s patients.”
MAY is National Arthritis Awareness Month
May is identified each year as National Arthritis Awareness Month. In recognition we are promoting Arthritis education and awareness. According to a research (Smith, T.O., Higson, E., Person, M., Mansfield, M. (2016). Is there an increased risk of falls and fractures in people with early diagnosed hip and knee osteoarthritis? Data from the osteoarthritis initiative. International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases. doi: 10.1111/1756-185X.12871.) knee and hip arthritis leads to a significant increase in the risk for falls. The Arthritis Self-Management Program (ASMP) can give your patients the tools they need to succeed!
