Professional Staff
Richard E. Gans, Ph.D.
Executive Director

Dr. Gans is the founder and executive director of The American Institute of Balance; one of the country's largest balance disorders treatment centers. He received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Auditory and Vestibular Physiology. Dr. Gans has been a leader in the development of vestibular evaluation and rehabilitation techniques. He has presented or published over 100 programs and papers in the area of equilibrium disorders and is a frequent lecturer at national and state meetings. He is adjunct professor at the University of South Florida, Nova Southeastern University and a guest instructor for the University of Pittsburgh. He teaches vestibular and balance courses for Arizona School of Health Sciences, Pennsylvania College of Optometry-School of Audiology, and the University of Florida distance learning Au.D. programs. Dr. Gans is the immediate past president of the American Academy of Audiology .
Dr. Gans is the author of the text Vestibular Rehabilitation: Protocols and Programs, which is currently in revision and soon to be released through the AIB Education Foundation and will be available for purchase directly from the dizzy.com place!!
Patricia Harrington-Gans, Au.D.
Executive Director 
Dr. Patricia Harrington-Gans is co-founder of the American Institute of Balance. She has had an extensive career as a medical audiologist with extensive experience in vestibular evaluation and treatment both in Massachusetts and Florida. She is a clinical supervisor of audiologists for the University of South Florida. She is also the Director of the Institute's Education Foundation that specializes in postgraduate training through workshops and online education programs.
Dr. Harrington-Gans received her Au.D. as a member of the first graduating class from the University of Florida. She received her Master's degree from Northeastern University in Boston Massachusetts. She is a charter member of AAA and FLAA where she served as President of the Florida Academy of Audiology. Other professional membership include the Academy of Dispensing Audiology and the American Academy of Audiology. She holds the Board Certification in Audiology by the American Board of Audiology.
Richard A. Roberts, Ph.D.
Director of Clinical Studies 
Dr. Roberts is the Director of Clinical Studies of The American Institute of Balance. He received his Ph.D. from the University of South Alabama. Dr. Roberts has previously held positions on the faculty at the University of Mississippi and also at the University of South Florida, where he continues to teach as an adjunct professor. Dr. Roberts is well-published in the leading peer-reviewed scientific journals of our field and serves as an editorial consultant to many of these, including American Journal of Audiology, Brain, Ear and Hearing, Hearing Research, etc. Dr. Roberts has been an Assistant Editor for the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology since 2002. In addition, his work has been invited for presentation at numerous national and international meetings. Dr. Roberts has served as the Chair of the Student Research Forum for the Florida Academy of Audiology since 2004.
